Charlie Co

Born in Negros, Philippines in 1960, Co graduated at the La Consolacion College, College of Fine Arts, in 1984 and at the Philippine Women’s University, College of Fine Arts, in Manila in 1986. He was awarded the Thirteen Artists Award of the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 1990. He was first identified as a social realist in the mid-1980s and later developed an interest in figurative expressionism that borders on surrealism.

“Charlie Co’s paintings are sincere and candid, and surreal. There is an absence of pretensions and high-falutin concepts. Instead they possess the playfulness and the energy of fantastic stories for children. Their ebullience is infectious; viewers are drawn closer.” Dream Time for Charlie by Amado Bajarias Sunday Times Magazine, July 16, 1995.
